Gurney Journey: Edward Gosling, Armless Artist

Edward Gosling of Manchester, England, overcame the misfortune of dropping each his arms when he was a boy. 

On the age of 15, he produced this Christmas card design, holding the pen along with his toes.

Based on an article in a 1936, “Dropping his arms in an accident, he taught himself to color, holding the brushes between his toes, and has simply had an animal research in oils accepted for exhibition on the Burlington Galleries, London.”

He went on to have  distinguished profession, with work accepted by the Royal Academy. this one is known as “A Welcome Relaxation”. It appeared in a June, 1936 challenge of The Artist’s Journal.
